Whenever there is a PMD hatch, and now is the time, there are so many stages of that particular hatch to choose from: the full adult, adult upright wing, adult CDC wing, RS2 emerger, emerger with a trailing shuck, looped-wing emerger… and the list goes on. With all of these choices there is one particular pattern that stands above the rest, and that’s the cripple PMD emerger. There are all kinds of theories as to why a fish may chooses a cripple pattern over the rest. In fact there have been books writing about this, but whatever the reason you come up with, just know fish love them. So if you plan on going out where the PMDs will be seen on the water, be sure to have the cripple PMD emerger at your side.
