Since its beginning in 1993, the Idaho Angler has focused on and emphasized teaching, bot to introduce novices to fly fishing and fly tying, and to help other fly anglers hone their skills and increase their knowledge.


The Idaho Angler offers Beginning Fly Fishing classes every Saturday morning from 9am to 12:30pm. The class fee is $75, and covers equipment used in fly fishing, techniques and casting. We supply the equipment you will need for this class. By the end of the class, you'll have the basic knowledge and casting skills to get started fly fishing. The Idaho Angler offers Beginning Fly Tying classes through the Winter and Spring seasons each year. Our instructors have years of teaching and tying experience, and have perfected their techniques for teaching fly tying. The classes are held over the course of six consecutive evening sessions in the Idaho Angler classroom. All tools and materials are provided, and included in the class fee of $65.00. Upon completion of the course, the student will have learned the skills and techniques necessary to tie most patterns used locally. Periodically through the year the Idaho Angler offers special clinics and seminars on such subjects as: advanced casting techniques, spey casting, tying steelhead flies, advanced tying techniques and many other advanced subjects. Often we bring in nationally recognized experts to teach these classes, including: Mel Krieger, Jack Dennis, Simon Gawesworth and many others.
